Stop Guessing on Pricing: Compare Your Shopify Products Against 5.6M+ Stores

Stop Guessing On Pricing kennethau.com

Pricing a product is mostly guesswork. You look at a couple of competitor stores you know about, maybe check Google Shopping, land on a number, and move on. What you don't see is the other few thousand stores also selling something close to your product — some cheaper, some pricier, some with a margin structure you have no visibility into.

I built the Shopify Price Compare tool to close that gap. Search any product and it scans across 5.6M+ Shopify storefronts to show you what the market is actually charging — in seconds, for free, with no account required.

How it works: Shopify's Catalogue MCP

Under the hood, this runs on Shopify's Catalogue MCP — a Model Context Protocol interface that exposes structured product and pricing data across the Shopify network in a way that's built for exactly this kind of query. Instead of scraping thousands of individual storefronts one by one, the tool queries the catalogue directly, which is what makes it possible to return relevant price matches from millions of stores in seconds rather than minutes.

This matters for accuracy as much as speed. Because the data is coming from the same structured catalogue Shopify itself indexes, what you see is a real read of live pricing across the network — not a scraped snapshot that's gone stale by the time you look at it.

What it actually shows you

Type in a product name — your own product, or one you're thinking about launching — and the tool returns:

Why this matters if you own a Shopify store

Stop pricing in a vacuum. Most store owners set prices once, based on gut feel or a handful of competitors they happen to know about, and rarely revisit it. This tool turns that into an on-demand check — search your own SKU any time and see exactly where you stand against the broader market, not just the two or three stores you already had bookmarked.

Catch the two failure modes of bad pricing. Priced too high, and you're quietly losing sales to stores a shopper found in two extra clicks. Priced too low, and you're leaving margin on the table for no reason. Neither is visible without a market view — and now that view is one search away.

Validate before you launch. Before setting a price on a new product, search it here first. You'll see what the market charges, roughly where the price floor sits, what a wholesale unit costs if you're sourcing it, and what margin is realistically achievable — so the number you launch with is defensible, not a guess.

Discover who you're actually competing against. The store you think of as your main competitor might not be the one setting the market price. This surfaces stores across the full network, including ones you've genuinely never heard of, which is often where the real price benchmark is sitting.

Source and compare in the same motion. Because the wholesale sourcing data is right there in the same search, you don't need to jump between a pricing tool and a separate sourcing tool. Find where you sit on price, then immediately see if a cheaper supplier exists for the same or a similar product — one search, one page.

Who it's for

Try it

Search any product at collectivetheme.com/compare — no account, no cost, results in seconds. If you want the same check without leaving a competitor's product page while you browse, the Chrome extension adds a "Find alternatives" button directly on any Shopify store's product pages.

Once you've settled on the number, making sure the rest of the storefront converts at that price — CRO, checkout, performance — is where my Shopify CRO and performance work comes in.

I also built the free llms.txt generator for making Shopify stores readable by AI shopping agents, and I run Collective Theme, where I build free tools like this for Shopify store owners.
